OUR GOAL
Here at AWLC our goal is to grow the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. We teach our athletes proficiency in the snatch and clean and jerk. Our focus is not only on how much weight they can lift, but also how they are lifting it. We want our athletes to experience the sport for a long time, and proper progression and movement is a must for this. We strive to bring you the best coaching and programming to ensure our athletes are always improving.
Olympic Weightlifting is a great way to build strength , muscle and loose fat.
The club's main focus is performance. “Weight loss” is not what we focus on but as we resistance train and lift weight everyday it can becomes a by product of your training. I don’t believe standing on the scales is a good way to measure your progression. Body shape, confidence and recording your success and progression in the sport is a much better way.
We are not your typical gym and that’s what we love. Our aim is to create a fun and supportive club, where like minded people can train and socialise.
OUR FOCUS
The sport of weightlifting is an athletic discipline in the modern Olympic program consisting of two lifts, the Snatch and the Clean & Jerk. In the Snatch, the athlete lifts the barbell from the floor to overhead in a single movement. In the Clean & Jerk, the athlete lifts the barbell first from the floor to the shoulders (clean) and then from the shoulders to overhead (jerk). In a competition, each athlete has three attempts at the Snatch and three attempts at the Clean & Jerk, the weights of the best of each of the contested lifts are added together to give the athlete a total. The highest total wins.
We are also committed to working with athletes in other sports who are looking to:
Developing proficient technique in the weightlifting movements will help increase force production in order to move more efficiently and explosively and improve balance, timing, flexibility and coordination.

Paul Glendining
Weightlifting is something I love, pursue and deeply enjoy. I found the sport by way of CrossFit and quickly made the decision to switch to weightlifting full time always chasing the next kilos . Helping people become better athletes is something I take great pride in. My coaching philosophy is one of simplicity and hard work, with an intense focus on having fun.
